MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved an allocation of RM100,000 to assist fire victims in Long Peluan to rebuild their longhouse.
He announced the allocation after leading his cabinet ministers in donating to the reconstruction fund as the hat was passed around on stage at the opening of Sejiwa Senada 3.0 programme here yesterday.
Deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian also chipped in to the donation.
Also present at the function were Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Juma’ani Tunku Bujang; Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talip Zulpilip and Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
Earlier, the chief minister presented appointment letters to community leaders and Sarawak Foundation Scholarship awards to the recipients.
The 12-door longhouse at Long Peluan was razed to the ground in a midnight fire on April 5, leaving a senior citizen suffering burns on his left arm while others managed to escape to safety.
Among the fire victims was former Deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang.
