was on the way to work… encounter a slight traffic jam…
a guy from the right lane signaled to indicate he wants to cut in front of me.
despite the fact that the guy was actually on the wrong side of the lane,
guess you can say he shouldn’t be driving there and suddenly cuts in…
but feeling neutral then, I let him cut in front of me…
and then he raise his hand in a gesture of thanks from inside his car…
and you can see him give you a grateful smile from his rear mirror…
what do you mean he’s on the wrong side of the lane? how do u know where he’s heading to if he didnt signal that he wants to overtake to the left lane ? and, honestly, he smile with U is better than just over-taking into left lane without signal , somemore be ignorant bout U aite ?
the road at that time is a three lane one… the left lane ( the one I am in ), goes forward.
The middle lane and the right lane goes backwards…
the lane I was in was a bit jammed at that moment…
the guy turned into the middle lane from a T junction, so basically , the guy was going against traffic…
Errr…it’s called road confusion. Often times I also drove in the wrong lane cause there are three lanes and cannot see the arrow sign on the middle road because a car stopped on it. Sometimes at night due to the dim light from the overhead street light, also cannot see the lanes. But that was my first experience so I know better now.
leech… haha, no no… i think there is a misunderstanding here…
i’m not commenting on whether he is a good driver because he got into the wrong lane…
I am asking whether you guys think this guy is being courteous in raising his hand in thanks
when I let him cut in front of me…
:)
…errrr…so you suspect him for being insincere and merely saying thanks because he felt like it?
Raising hands merely a gesture to show that he acknowledge your action of willing to slow down for him to cut in. So in a way you can interpret it as thanks.
Say while you are queing at dunkin donut, a guy want to cut line (bad habit but let’s make it an example for now) and you happen to let him cut in front of you, will you feel offended or regret if the guy shows no sign of acknowledging your willingness to let him cut in?
but i was pleasantly surprised to see the gesture, to be honest…
normally is you see the person trying to cut in eye you in a very rude manner,
or they act like it is their right to cut in front of you but avoid looking you in the eye…
so to see someone raise his hands as thanks was not what I expected…
i think if more drivers in miri adopt this attitude, people might have been more willing and courteous to
let them cut in as long as it is not overboard…
i think that guy just being grateful that u gave him way. which means, u are the good driver. if it was me, “what the heck, man! no-way for you!!” hehe. tat’s my opinion. good driver means drive carefully, know which lane to take and not suddenly tukar lane. hehe. lucky for him he found DM, the good driver. hehehe.
nah, i have this habit that as long as the guy “SIGNALS” i will give him way…
I normally don’t entertain those that try to force cut in without signaling…
