77 bikes seized, 163 summonses issued

MIRI: A total of 77 motorcycles were seized and 163 summonses issued during an all-night police operation at three locations here.

‘Ops Motosikal’ targeting illegal bike racers or ‘mat rempit’ was held at Jalan Marina, Coco Cabana, and Jalan Bendahara near Miri Times Square from 5pm on Sunday to 3am yesterday (July 27).

“A total of 94 motorcycles were inspected with 77 seized and 163 summonses issued for various traffic offences during the operation,” said district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

From the total, 47 summonses were issued for riding without valid licence; 63 for motorcycles without side mirrors; 30 for motorcycles with modified exhaust and 23 for motorcycles with modified registration plates.

“A total of 156 men and 24 women have been checked but no arrest was made. The operation went smoothly,” Lim added.

The operation involved three traffic officers, 18 traffic and 10 mobile police vehicle unit personnel.
