Firefighters rescue the trapped driver of the 4WD vehicle.
MIRI: The driver of a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle carrying the body of a drowning victim plunged down a ravine at Jalan Ulu Mendamit in Limbang on Wednesday.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the man was travelling from Long Napir to Limbang around 4.30pm when the single vehicle accident occurred.
The vehicle was carrying the body of Delvin Dinisius, who had drowned in Long Lama on the same day.
“Upon arrival at the scene, in slippery road conditions and rainy weather, the victim lost control of the vehicle, which plunged down the ravine along with the body of the drowning victim.
“The driver suffered only minor injuries while the body of the drowning victim was thrown out of the vehicle as far as 300 metres from the scene,” Alexson said in a statement on Thursday.
Firefighters from the Limbang Fire Station managed to extricate the trapped driver from the vehicle as well as remove the body from the ravine.
As the ravine area was very steep, the 4WD vehicle could not be immediately moved back up onto the road.
