Illegal foreigners being rounded up during the operation at Senadin.
MIRI: Thirty-nine foreigners were arrested for being in the country illegally during two operations here on Thursday.
In a press statement yesterday, General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 12 commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said the operations were conducted at housing construction sites in Permy and Senadin here.
The operation codenamed ‘Op Libas’ were carried out by one GOF officer with 42 of its members and 12 immigration officers.
About 60 people were checked during the operations at the two locations, and 39 were found to have violated the Immigration Act.
“Out of the 39 people arrested, 31 were men, eight were women including one woman of unknown nationality while the rest were Indonesians,” he said adding four were arrested at South Lake Permy and 35 people were arrested at the second location.
15 of those arrested had overstayed and are being detained under Section 15 (1) © of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), while 16 were arrested under Section 6 (1) © of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid documents.
“The remaining eight others were detained under Section 11 (7) (a) of the Immigration Regulations 1966 for violating their social visit pass,” Tan said.
All the foreigners arrested were referred to the Miri Immigration Department for further investigation.
