22 stateless people receive birth certs and citizenships in Miri

MIRI: 22 stateless people in Sarawak have received their birth certificates and citizenship.

The Sarawak Ministry for Welfare, Women and Community Development secured their citizenship status from the Home Ministry.

The 22 are aged from two years to their 60s. Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah presented the birth certificates to these adults and children in Miri city on March 27.

Fatimah said the operation to help stateless folks throughout urban and rural Sarawak is being carried out aggressively by her ministry and the National Registration Department (NRD).

She thanked the Home Ministry in Putrajaya, the NRD and Barisan Nasional wakil rakyat for working closely with the state government to overcome the dilemma of stateless folks in Sarawak.
