2015 STPM: slight drop in CGPA

KUCHING: A total of 4,861 candidates or 96.39 per cent of the 5,057 who sat for the 2015 Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) in Sarawak have obtained their certificates compared to 4,840 in 2014 STPM.

According to the State Education Director, Rakayah Madon, the 2015 STPM results for Sarawak indicated a drop in the Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA), recording a CGPA of 2.48, compared to the CGPA of 2.49 for the 2014 STPM.

“A total of 22 candidates or 0.44 per cent passed all five subjects while 2,994 or 59.37 per cent passed four subjects,” she said at a press release on state’s 2015 STPM results, yesterday.

A total of 904 candidates or 17.93 per cent passed three subjects while 566 or 11.22 per cent candidates passed two subjects while 375 candidates or 7.44 per cent passed at least one subject.

“The state 2015 STPM result is still at a very satisfactory level, although the CGPA declined slightly from 2.49 in 2014 to 2.48,” she said.

Rakayah also said for individual achievement, 18 candidates or 0.36 per cent achieved CGPA of 4.00 in 2015 compared to 40 candidates in 2014.

“A total of 1,256 candidates or 24.90 per cent achieved CGPA of 3.00 compared to 1,178 in 2014,” she said.

The 2015 STPM results showed 10 subjects recorded improvement, namely, Literature in English at 21.43 per cent, ICT (17.31 per cent), Chinese language (6.27 per cent), Sport Science (6.06 per cent) and Visual Art (2.67 per cent).

“Other subjects recorded improvement are History (2.28 per cent), Economics (1.91 per cent), Usuluddin (1.67 per cent), Chemistry (0.31 per cent) and Accounting (0.26 per cent),” she said.

Rakayah revealed that 14 schools achieved impressive CGPA of 2.80 and above.

“The 14 schools are SMK Sacred Heart, Sibu (3.17), SMK Lutong, Miri (3.04), SMK Merabu, Miri (3.00), SMK Kai Chung, Bintangor (2.98), SMK Batu Lintang, Kuching (2.97), SMK Bandar Kuching No.1, Kuching (2.97), SMK Sg Merah, Sibu (2.94), SMK Tung Hua, Sibu (2.89), SMK Chung Hua, Miri (2.88), SMK Chung Hua, Sibu (2.87), SMK Simunjan No. 1, Simunjan (2.84), SMK Sibu Jaya, Sibu (2.83), SMK Bandar Sibu, Sibu (2.83) and SMK Kubong Limbang (2.82),” she said.

A total of 5057 candidates registered for STPM in Sarawak in 2015 compared to 4,978 candidates in 2014. Of the total, 5043 candidates were from public schools while 14 were private candidates.
