18 new cases under investigation for Covid-19 in Sarawak

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 18 new Person Under Investigation (PUI) cases for Covid-19 yesterday.

A statement from the State Disaster Management Committee said of the 18, 16 are at the Sarawak General Hospital, while Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital have one each.

From Jan 10 until 10.30am yesterday, Sarawak recorded a total of 195 PUI cases, 167 of which had tested negative.

Twenty-eight cases are awaiting results from laboratory testing.

These are 22 cases at the Sarawak General Hospital, three in Miri Hospital, two in Bintulu Hospital, and one in Sibu Hospital.

As of 11am on Thursday, the Health Department screened 14,797 arrivals to the state at all airport, sea, and land entry points bringing the total screened since Feb 1 to 368,122.

The Health Department is again advising those who plan to travel to affected countries such as China, including Hong Kong and Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Italy, and Iran to postpone such trips.

Those who have travelled to any of these affected countries within the last 14 days and have developed fever, coughing, and breathing difficulty must seek immediate medical attention.

They must also inform the doctor attending to them of their travel history.

Any doctors coming across suspected Covid-19 cases must notify the Health Department by calling 082-443247 or emailing the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre at cprc-sarawak@moh.gov.my.

They can also contact the State Disaster Management Committee hotline on 082-443991.
