KUCHING: More than 15,000 tickets for the Rainforest World Music Festival have been sold.
Sarawak Tourism Board chief executive Gracie Geikie said the early sales this year had surpassed that of last year, when 11,000 tickets were sold before the event.
The RM200 three-day passes had sold out but one-day passes, priced at RM80, will be sold at the entrance of the venue, she said.
The event will be held at the Sarawak Cultural Village in Santubong starting tomorrow.
The maximum capacity of the venue is 24,000 people over three days. Were not just targeting big numbers of visitors but also need to keep their safety in mind, she said.
This years festival, the 10th in the series, will see the return of many popular performers. It will feature 20 bands performing diverse musical styles.
Geikie also said all major hotels in the city and the Damai peninsula were fully-booked for the event.
Some groups from Hong Kong and Australia had to cancel their plans to come because they could not get accommodation, she said.
She said a list of budget hotels and lodging houses with rooms available can be found in the festival website at http://www.rainforestmusic-borneo.com.
