10 Die In Road Horror

GUA MUSANG: Ten people were killed and a baby seriously injured in a three-car accident involving a Perodua Kenari, a Perodua Kancil and a Nissan Murano four-wheel drive.

Those killed were all five people in the Kenari and five of six people in the Kancil. The four people in the four-wheel drive escaped with minor injuries.

In the pile-up at the 21st kilometre of Jalan Kuala Krai-Gua Musang at 10.30am yesterday, the Kancil heading for Kuala Krai from here, is believed to have collided head-on with the Murano before the Kenari crashed into the Kancil.

The deaths came as a stark reminder of the countrys newest traffic law, the rear seat belt ruling that came into force two days ago. None of the rear passengers in either car were buckled up, police said.

Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Department chief Rosli Che Sulaiman confirmed that only the drivers of the Kancil and Kenari had their seat belts on.

He said rescue personnel had to cut the seat belts of the drivers to remove their bodies.

The deceased were identified as Haliza Md Zain, 33, the driver of the Kancil, her sister Maziatul Shamila, and three of her children Mohd Rahiza Yuswa Abdul Rahim, 12, Norashidah, 10, and six-year-old Shaha.

Halizas fourth child, one-year-old Noraihah Nabila was seriously injured and has been admitted to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

The five victims in the Kenari were driver Lau Sin Eik, 59, Lee Bee Seng, 50, Lau Chai Soon, 78, Ho Kin Hum, 86, and 18-year-old Shareen Lau Ming Min.

Phua Thein Noo, 28, drove the Murano while his passengers were Tan Chee Hua, 44, Wong Kee Hooi, 20, and 33-year-old Lau Soon Lee.

Gua Musang OCPD Supt Ahmad Termizi Abd Haq said police had detained Phua for questioning.

Preliminary police investigations showed that the Kancil driver may have wanted to overtake another vehicle when the collision happened.

Almost all the victims died on the spot except for the six-year-old child who died on the way to Gua Musang Hospital, he told reporters.

Supt Ahmad Termizi said some of the victims were trapped in their vehicles while some were thrown out.

He said Fire and Rescue Department personnel took at least 40 minutes to extricate the bodies.

All the bodies were taken to Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem.

kancil with 6 pax

another sad story…

Weapon of Mass Destruction = the kancil and the kenari

lucky mine’s daihatsu…keke

Local car vs Japanese Car. :frowning: :frowning:

Very small and yet if driven carelessly, proven to be fatal.

It kinda make me think that what sort of car was the kancil (with 6 people inside, imagine the weight) overtaking (this is kinda hard izzit for a 660cc car ?) and in what sort of speed it hit the nissan murano and still have enough momentum to crash into a kenari (how fast was this kenari doing) killing everyone inside the car and the one inside the kenari. It makes me think sometime, driver of those smaller size vehicle in Miri doing 100 kmph in Miri highway with all their family member inside… dude if you drive a fragile car fast, do it alone in a track … if you have a whole family inside, best to go slow, take your time, finish your objective which is reach destination safely. It is absolutely careless to go fast & reckless and hit another bigger car which has more survival chances than yours …

thats y low is slow… dont go for performance, go for VIP styling…hehe

Yup… could not agree more… want to reach early, don’t come down late… Take it easy…

go for ICE better!!

go for ICE better!![/quote]

Teh ICE or KOPI ICE

It is absolutely careless to go fast & reckless and hit another bigger car which has more survival chances than yours …

“Reckless” doesn’t necessarily have to be fast. There are plenty of people who are totally reckless that don’t go past 60kph. But the considering the poor choice of affordable vehicles in this country (when everyone thinks a Camry is “luxury” ), these sorts of vehicles are death traps in an event that something does go wrong EVEN if you’re careful especially when overloaded with the whole kampung out for a drive. Seat belts only serve to keep the already dead people from flying out then…

sad story…but 6 ppl in a kancil??

i don’t like police said “no rear seat belt” is connected with this accident…the one who fasten also died…if they fasten rear seat belt can’t affirm they will safe also…

As a conclusion…we should blame on perodua for manufaturing kancil n kelisa (or mayb kenari??) which i think cause many ppl die on the road…mayb can change name to kanasai…

True … true … reckless can be in any circumstances. We don’t want to question about quality, safety & affordability. Those are things discussion cannot solve. It just a driver should understand what sort of vehicle they are driving, understanding your car disadvantages and limitation against others thus avoid exploiting it. In a compact car, these value become even more obvious as damage sustained is pretty much maximum considering size, weight & safety feature. The slating on the seat belt in the article is just plain bollocks.

Hmm…

E.g: Kancil doing 60kp/h with family wearing seatbelts vs (head on collision) Altis doing 60kp/h with family wearing seatbelts + additional feature as GOA Body, WIL Concept seat, Head Impact protection, ABS, EBD, VSC…bla bla bla…

Now, which family will have more chance of surviving an accident?

Grrrrr… y’all do the math…

The chances are equal. Because the kancil is so small, the Altis might miss it entirely with all its super duper active safety help so a collision wouldn’t have occurred.

If this continues any further, the government would make a law in which all kancil and kenari drivers and passengers must wear crash helmets since seat belts have proven inadequate for assuring safety when an accident happens

Seat belts are only proven useful in a minor crash. Prevents u from banging ur head and knocking urself out. In a tin can case, Seat belts are virtually useless

don forget to wear airbag as well.

wonder how did these kinds of cars pass the safety test??
or did they actually test the safety of these cars?? G wants cars for everybody, more money in their pockets…
but the safety aspects???
