Upgrade Program Description

To be eligible for the DellTM Windows® 7 Upgrade Option program, you must purchase a Dell system between June 26, 2009 and December 31, 2009 that meets the following criteria:

* Your system must have one of the following operating systems Windows Vista® Home Premium, Windows Vista® Business, or Windows Vista® Ultimate factory installed OR have Windows XP pre-installed with Windows Vista Business Bonus, or Windows Vista Ultimate Bonus.

* The system must be included in the list of Eligible Systems for an upgrade.

The upgrade version received will be comparable to the version of Vista already purchased. See the table below for details. Requirements subject to change and are based on currently available information from Microsoft.

Please note: if your system is operating Windows XP, to upgrade to Windows 7 you must first make backup copies of all files currently on your hard drive. A clean installation of the Windows 7 operating system is required, and so the DVD provided as part of your upgrade kit will overwrite all remaining data on your hard drive. Dell is not responsible for any data lost during the upgrade process.

From the bolded part, its likely that you have to install Windows Vista before you can upgrade to Windows 7.

Only if you bought Windows XP, then you can do a fresh install.

This is the ideal windows to replace the old XP. I remove windows xp and fully using Windows 7, no more dual boot XP/Vista, XP/7 everything is smooth as XP
and for the Vodafone datacard user, better to download the latest version of Vodafone Mobile Connect Software otherwise Windows 7 can't recognized it at all, no matter how you manual force install it

have you got your win 7 already?
cos if u have vista (vista home premium, vista business and vista Ultimate), you might be able to purchase a win 7 upgrade option. then u wont need to reformat your pc.

as for me, am reinstallying from fresh. ^.^

Hey guys, I'm using W7 Professional 64-bit now. hoho.
I bought using student discount here in aussie $.$ 49AUD only. the home premium and professional got same price for the student discount thing. so i bought professional hahaha.
It's been great so far. Here's how my desktop looks like now, just a simple look, the wallpaper came with the w7 lol. i liked it O.o
