Mr Miri 2017 draws overwhelming response from bodybuilders


Miri: Mr Miri 2017 saw the most overwhelming participation thus far with 82 bodybuilders vying for the title on at the contest organised by Miri Division Bodybuilding (PBBBM).

Winners from this round will advance to the Mr Sarawak Championships in Miri on April 30.

Sarawak Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Miri mayor Adam Yii officiated at the event.

Lee congratulated the association on its achievements and expressed hopes that Miri could host Mr Malaysia in the near future.

“Competitions such as Mr Miri is a way to encourage the community to be conscious about their health and fitness.

“Bodybuilders have to be disciplined in various aspects, including their diet, workout schedule and time management.

“In addition to that, they have to stay away from smoking and alcohol.

“Thus, I feel by taking up body building as a sport, people will be more productive and also cut down on medical expenses,” said Lee.

PBBBM president Jamilah Ibrahim welcomed the participants from Bintulu, Limbang, Lawas, Brunei and Miri.

“We have a total of 82 participants this year, which is the highest number we have received so far,” said Jamilah.

She also highlighted the fact that Sarawak had bagged the Mr Malaysia title for the past three years.

“It is not an easy feat to retain the title three years in a row. We hope to once again clinch the title for the fourth time this year.

She said the association hoped to host bigger competitions in Miri, with support from Lee, in an effort to make Miri known as a healthy city.

“This is in line with the association’s aspiration to create a healthier generation here in Miri by the year 2030,” she added.

Seasoned muscleman Maskabi Kabar claimed his fourth consecutive win for the overall title at Mr Miri 2017.
