MIRI, May 11 (Bernama) — The Miri Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2017, to be held this weekend, is targeting to sell RM2 million worth of flight packages this year.
Miri MATTA Fair Organising Chairman, Wilson Chiam Tak Chee, said optimistic target was based on the RM1 million sales that was generated in the first Miri Matta Fair held here last year, despite the challenges in tourism industry.
“This year we believe that more visitors will take part because of the reasonably priced attractive packages offered by airline operators,” he said in a media conference here today.
He said the fair, to be held from May 12-14, will feature 24 booths with the participation of 11 travel agents, banks and hoteliers.
“Among the participating airlines are MASwings, Airasia and Royal Brunei Airlines,” he added.
Meanwhile MATTA Sarawak Chapter Chairman, Chris Kon Kun Chiew, said the Kuching MATTA Fair that was held in March registered sales totalling RM4.5 million.
He said the overwhelming response was largely due to the competitive packages offered to popular destinations in Asia and the European region.
“It is quite surprising that despite the depreciation in our currency, many are still keen to go for overseas holidays,” he said.
