MIRI: The Sarawak women football team have created history.
They emerged champions of the Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup national women football tournament in the finals at Miri Stadium.
The final match at the Miri Stadium on Saturday evening saw Sarawak beating Kedah 1-0.
That was the 30th finals of the annual tournament.
The heroine for Sarawak was Siti Rohani Sabtu who scored in the 36th minute from a long distance shot.
The home team did not lose a single match throughout the tournament.
Bekenu assemblyman Rosey Yunus presented the trophy, RM20,000 cash and medals to the Sarawak team.
Kedah won RM10,000 as runners-up.
Rosey said it was a proud day for Sarawak women.
“Sarawak beat Kedah even though Kedah is a very strong team.
“The hardwork put in by our women bears fruits,” she said.
Sarawak coach Hakimi Man said the team trained very hard and they rejoiced at this historic victory.
“Sarawak women have potential in all fields of sports,” she said, thanking the fans for their support.
