Family that burgled together gets nabbed together

MIRI: Miri police arrested a family, including two small boys, suspected of operating a syndicate specialising in burglaries in the city.

Police seized more than 100 items following a raid at the family’s house near Miri.

The items included handphones, laptop computers, branded watches, jewellery, and two motorbikes.

Three men and three women in their 30s and 40s, a 19-year-old woman, and two boys aged 10 and 12, were arrested at one house in the Pujut 1 housing estate, while two middle-aged men were detained at another house nearby.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Ringit said the arrests were made over the weekend.

Police also seized two broadswords and a made-in-China handcuff from the family, as well as a fake police vest, he said Monday.

Police are investigating the possibility the group was involved in series of housebreaking and thefts here.
